B.C. Summer Games

The BC Summer Games were held in Nanaimo on beautiful Vancouver Island from July 17-20, and CATA members from BC played an important role in making the Games a resounding success!

Twenty-one certification candidates from Camosun College and one from Mount Royal University joined five Certified Athletic Therapists in providing an outstanding level of care for the athletes participating in the Games. This incredibly dedicated group was charged with providing on-field coverage at the higher risk venues, as well as at the Games medical clinic.

The involvement of our CATA members was greatly appreciated on many levels, as feedback from athletes, parents, coaches, and other members of the Medical team was incredibly positive. The range of Athletic Therapy skills and services impressed many of the members of the medical team, and the high level of training of the certification candidates was remarked upon on many occasions.

As a member of the Medical Directorate for the 2014 BC Summer Games I would like to take the opportunity to thank all of the CATA volunteers who took time out of their busy lives to help make the Games a fantastic experience for all of the athletes. I am confident that the time you have given has also served to increase the exposure of Athletic Therapy services, and has been an important part of the growth of the profession of Athletic Therapy in British Columbia.
