APATA Update

I would like to start by sending my best wishes to all my fellow AT’s (and to Helena) in Alberta after the recent flooding events. I hope everyone and their families are doing ok. I can honestly say that I was moved to see the number of therapists that were providing treatments to flood victims and volunteers. Great job AT’s!

We have had a busy summer here in the Atlantic Provinces. In June, APATA had the pleasure of hosting Laura Leslie and Leslie Larson in Halifax and enjoyed an excellent course in Clinical Approaches to Concussion Management and Rehab. Jim Bilotta also came to Halifax to do his Soft Tissue Release workshop which was also well received. Both courses were exceptional and enjoyed by all therapists in attendance. We look forward to the possibility of hosting future course in New Brunswick and Newfoundland as well.

APATA is currently in the process of restructuring some of our regional committees and will be putting out a call soon for new membership. Our Board of Directors discussed and created some new mandates for these committees, including: the creation of a Twitter page, the creation of a database of CATA approved continuing education providers, and updating/adding resources to the APATA website. All of these mandates will help to increase the awareness of the AT profession throughout the Atlantic Provinces.

Here are some exciting updates from some of our APATA members:

Congratulations to Natalie Randall who will be getting married in August (to her new hubby Greg) and officially becoming a new step mom to Kieran....all the best to you and your new family Natalie!

Diane Ouimet capped off her year by hiking the Grand Canyon then wining her division in the Gunn Baldursson Soccer Tournament (which is the largest female soccer tournament east of Montreal). After winning the Memorial Cup with the Halifax Mooseheads, I am wondering what you have in store for us next year Diane?

Tyler Paturel is the new CAT(C) with the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles of the QMJHL. All the best Tyler, with your new position in CB.
